THE CONTROVERSIAL
ANTI-BACTERIAL WASHES
Nowadays, almost every-
thing is "anti-bacterial" - the
washes we used daily goes up
in price if labelled as "anti-
bacterial". Anti-bacterial prod-
ucts have chemicals like triclosan
that is colourless, odourless and
mild in nature but can kill bacte-
ria on the skin surface. Depend-
ing on their concentration, their
usage would be vastly different.
Now, the human skin in fact has
a normal flora of co-existing
bacteria, good and bad ones and
we would not get infected as they
guard against each other.
However, when there is pro-
longed usage of anti-bacterial,
the delicate balance is upset so
that the natural self-defense
mechanism of the skin is now
lost. Remember, although "bac-
tericidal" is to kill bacteria, "anti-
bacterial" is just putting on hold
temporarily. Wash you hands in
running water can already get rid
of 90%of the bacteria.The tooth-
paste is also posing as the cure
for various mouth disorders, as
if it is a panacea. Be sure to use
different toothpastes with differ-
ent anti-bacterial to avoid resis-
tant strains of bacteria in your
mouth. Nevertheless, apart from
washes, anti-bacterial products
have a great potential - socks,
clothing, paper, refrigerators, etc.
備受爭議的抗菌洗滌用品
稍微留意一下市場，你可能就會發現，如今抗菌用品越
來越多，涉及的領域也越來越廣泛，用途也越來越普遍，抗
菌用品正以迅猛的態勢走俏市場。隨著科技的日新月異、人
們防患意識的增強，抗菌用品大踏步發展是必然的。但是，
在諸多抗菌用品中，抗菌洗滌用品備受爭議。
抗菌用品越來越廣泛
在諸多抗菌洗滌用品中，除了抗菌香皂以外，抗菌洗手液、
沐浴露、洗潔精、消毒液等等已經走進了尋常百姓家。某種衣物
消毒液的說明聲稱：該產品屬於公司的高科技新產品，不僅可以
驅除衣物的霉味、汗臭等各種異味，還可以有效殺滅衣物上的病
菌，而且還可以廣泛應用於洗滌床上用品、餐巾、抹布、拖把布
等等，特別適合細菌繁殖較快的夏季使用云云。
廣告的誘惑
很多人可能都看過這樣一則廣告：畫面上，媽媽給孩子用香
皂洗手，雖然洗乾淨了，但是在顯微鏡下，依然有不少細菌；媽
媽改用一種抗菌香皂給孩子洗手，不僅洗得很乾淨，而且在顯微
鏡下，細菌基本上都被殺滅了⋯⋯
果真如此嗎？回答應該是肯定的。一般抗菌洗滌用品中，添
加了玉潔新DP300（化學名三氯一羥基一二苯醚）、三氯二苯尿素
等化學藥品，這些藥品無色無味，性格也比較溫和，不含刺激
性，可以殺滅皮膚表面的細菌，並抑制其繁殖。由於添加的藥物
和濃度不盡相同，使用的效果也各異，但作用大同小異。
這些標明“抗菌”的洗滌用品，比一般洗滌用品價位高不少，
銷路也看好，越來越受到百姓的關注和歡迎。
