WHAT'S THE MATTER?
"CRAZY PUER TEA":
RAISES CONCERN
Puer tea is produced in
Southern Yunnan Province, at
an altitude of 1,200 - 1,400
metres. Puer is the small town
of origin thousands of years ago.
Puer tea is mild and can dispel
excessive fat and toxins from
beef and mutton but not for those
who are "deficient".With a bitter
taste, it helps passage of phlegm
and bowel movements. It lowers
blood cholesterol, blood pres-
sure and prevents strokes - all
because of its polyphenol con-
tent - especially catechin that
has very strong lipid-lowering
and cap i l l a r y - p r o t ec t i ve
functions. Recently, in-depth sci-
entific studies found puer tea to
have anti-cancer and other
properties. Tea has an endless
list of other goodies: stomach-
warming, anti-obesity, manag-
ing blood pressure, anti-diabetic,
prevention of dental caries, heart
diseases, strokes, ageing,
cancer, radiation; toxin and al-
cohol intoxication clearing, etc.;
even rebound obesity can be
prevented. Although puer pos-
sesses anti-cancer and anti-ra-
diation properties, it is not a can-
cer cure - as tea just cannot be
equivalent to medicine; a static
effect on cancer cells differs from
cell kill. Likewise, a health food
is not even a medicine, let alone
claiming to cure cancers.

茶文化是中華民族歷史文化遺產中重要的瑰寶之一，普
洱茶作為歷史悠久的名茶，是茶文化中的一個重要分支。然
而，近期以來，普洱茶在主要產地雲南的價格狂升、狂降，
市場起伏動蕩，令市場、令商人、令平民消費者無不感到震
撼，引起中央電視臺和主流媒體一再關注。最瘋狂時，頂級
普洱茶每件（30公斤）賣到了2萬多元的天價！西雙版納布
朗山鄉老班章毛料茶每公斤賣到了 1250 元（注意，這還是
“毛料茶”），價格都翻了幾番，被媒體稱為“瘋狂的普洱
茶”！
為何“瘋狂”起來了呢？
普洱茶究竟怎麼了？普洱茶為何“瘋狂”起來了呢？應該說，
茶文化的進一步推廣，首先源于人們對健康的追求、源於對普洱
茶的逐步認識和研究；但，讓其“瘋狂”，最主要的是源于商家炒
作、廣告轟炸，一些廣告宣傳聲稱：普洱茶不僅僅是最佳飲料，
還可以抑制癌症，可以減肥、降血脂⋯⋯還有若干科研成果和材
料證實，言之鑿鑿。引起不少人的狂熱追逐，還真有的人就把普
洱茶當作藥物來使用了！
普洱茶果真有這些功能嗎，可以當作藥物來使用嗎？
究根探源，還得從頭說起
中國茶文化歷史淵源流長，茶藝、茶禮為文人騷客和達官顯
宦喜聞樂道。普洱茶是歷史悠久的雲南名茶，主要產在雲南省南
部，海南也有少量分佈，一般生長在海拔1200——1400米的高山
上，其他位置難以生長，所以比較珍貴。雲南有樹齡達800年以上
