In 2006, random insomnia
rates found Shenzhen to be
above Beijing, Shanghai,
Nanjing, Tianjin, Hangzhou, at
68%. Late-night life disturbs
sleep rhythm. Only 13% sought
help, of these, only 23% from
psychiatrists, clinical psycholo-
gists or neurologists. 50% of
insomniacs had tiredness, poor
memory and concentration,
tiredness, bad mood, etc. 90%
had impatience, anxiety, perfec-
tionist trait (overactive brain).
Have regular sleep times; good
sleep environment; avoid
drinking, coffee or tea or even
a full stomach; avoid afternoon
naps and habitual sleeping pills.
Take millet (contains serotonin)
and milk (contains opioid-gen-
erating substances). According
to Dr Zhang, sunflower seeds,
honey and Chinese date and
lettuce are helpful but not white
cabbage, onions, corn and
banana. Alcohol induces poor
quality sleep. Most insomniacs
have associated anxiety /
depression, e.g., early-morning
awakening. Avoid sleeping pills
in the elderly, adolescents,
t hose wi t h impo t ence or
anaemia, weak physique, mo-
tor weaknesses, mild lung, liver
or kidney dysfunction, those
with multiple diseases, or those
with indeterminate serious
illnesses.

2006年針對北京、上海、南京、天津、杭州、深圳六城
市隨機調查顯示,受訪成年人在過去12個月中失眠患病率為
57%,六個城市中深圳最高,達68%。這和深圳人睡眠節律
偏晚有關。除此以外,香港也是個失眠“重地”。專家分
析,夜生活很精彩,習慣晚睡晚起,但越晚睡越容易干擾人
體正常的睡眠節律。
失眠患者中僅 13%求醫治療
睡不好覺,會帶來疾病。張博士指出,調查顯示,焦慮、關
節痛、體重增加、高血壓、抑鬱等疾病常和睡眠障礙“如影隨
形”,失眠患者僅13%就診,其中又只有23%求助於精神、心理和
神經科等專科醫生。五成左右的失眠患者有腦力疲憊、記憶障
礙、注意力不集中、日間疲倦、心境惡劣等心身不適症狀,但
73%的患者從未服用藥物或採用其他緩解方法改善睡眠。
據介紹,深圳人民醫院失眠門診近一年以來接診睡眠障礙患
者約4000多人次,其中90%左右為失眠患者。其中,病程半年以
上的慢性失眠患者佔到70%∼80%,其中不乏病程長達四五十
年,但從未就診和接受過系統治療的患者。據介紹,這些患者大
多沒把“睡不著”當成病,或者不知道該看哪個科,有的則認為服
催眠藥肯定會成癮,會對身體帶來很大副作用,甚至會引起癡
呆。
