PREVENT DISEASE
In the forest, negative ions
abound - they go into the lungs
and then to the blood and are
said to be able to promote the
circulation of our body, promote
metabolism, stabilize blood
pressure, regulate the activity of
our central nervous system,
enhance our mood and in-
crease immunity. As the bacte-
rial count in the forest is only 1%
of that in the cities that are also
much more dusty, the forest
provides a clean environment
with more oxygen. Pine or cy-
press forests liberate germ-kill-
ing fumes into the air; trees like
birch and oak would also emit
volatile material that kills germs.
As one goes into the forest,
such fragrances are refreshing;
with time, the green environ-
ment sooths the eyes and calm
our nerves. Apricot tree barks
and leaves have anti-cancer
properties; endorphins promote
pituitary secretions that benefit
fat metabolism, optimize glu-
cose utilization. Even the qui-
etness of the sound-proof for-
est environment would also
help us to relax much better, let
alone the lovely singing of the
birds and the delightful water
music of the streamlets. Avoid
forest baths after dark or dur-
ing foggy days; those who have
hay fever should also take care.
