Nourishing life is according to the season and time of the day, e.g., morning is for breakfast; the different physiques, meridians, food
categories for the yin and yang of the internal organs; the characteristics of exercises and breathing; of cultivation, e.g., music and
calligraphy or drawing appreciation, etc. and improving the living environment. The physique for nourishing life depends on hereditary
and acquired factors affecting our physiology, mode of structures and the mental state. 5 categories of physique exist according to
the Emperor’s Canon of Medicine. In the 20th Century, the concept of physique according to traditional Chinese medicine was further
defined. In 2009, the Chinese Traditional Medicine Association of China published the definition of 9 categories of physique for
Country-wide adoption. The characteristics of physique are their hereditary basis, stability, multiplicity, changeability, prone to change
and being subject to conditioning. With better understanding of all these, we can take steps promptly to correct or modify deviations of
our physique so as to ensure the best health.
