Mei Sheng, a Han Dynasty poet, warned against excessive dinning and women. Su Dongpo, a Sung Dynasty poet, described sound
sleep after feet soaking: with 60 odd meridian points below the ankle, circulation improves; endocrine secretions, readjusted. Shao
Yong, a Southern Song Dynasty poet and rationalist scholar, described unhealthy overeating: intakes, especially of the elderly, should
only be 70-80% full. Lu Yao, a Southern Song Dynasty poet, described the virtue of combing: a beneficial massaging effect on the
scalp. Zheng Chenggong, the famous General who recaptured Formosa (Taiwan), described the joy of reading: reading is also a
mental exercise preventing dementia. Zhang Banqiao, a Qing Dynasty painter and writer, described his vegetarian and unrefined meals;
natural chrysanthemum tea: much preferred to over-rich, excessive meaty and exotic food. The famous Chang Chungfu of the Qing
Dynasty described avoiding lust, anger and vanity: better be pure, happy and content. Yuan Mei, a long-lived poet of the Qing Dynasty,
described the pleasure of touring: it is refreshing, soothing and best for mental well being.
