IMMUNITY & OUR HEALTH
Our immunity, e.g., against viruses is initially rather "non-specific" (macrophages, interferon and natural killer cells); 2-4 weeks
later, "specific" antibodies develop to target the virus - humoral and cellular (T-lymphocytes), lasting for months or even for life.
The "neuro-endocrine-immune" axis integrates meticulously our immune responses with a mutual loop effect and the autonomic
and the parasympathetic nervous systems control our various other activities. Autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus
erythematosis ensue, e.g., with stress or infections, the normal selection power of the thymus gland is lost: unselected harmful
lymphocytes attack our normal tissues. Our immune and endocrine systems interact: through interleukin-I, and the hypothalamus,
more adreno-cortical trophic and glucocorticoid hormones pour out due to the loop mechanism. Thus, be optimistic, maintain
psychological balance; manage your anger; avoid tiredness, insomnia, smoking, excessive drinking; take a balanced diet and
regular physical exercises and vaccinations. Yet, excessive exercises or over nutrition are stressful and immunity decreases!
