MEDICAL MANAGEMENT SHOULD NOT BE ON THE FACE VALUE
The site of pain may not indicate the true location of the diseased organ. We often suppress our mental stresses and pains so as
to concentrate only on possible physical diseases. Others believe that mental stresses have their own privacy concerns that
should not be disturbed. The system of our Country's medical education may tend to dissociate "somatic" from "psycho" medicine,
let alone our Country's psychological medicine has had a belated commencement. Most other specialists would go round and
round within their own specialty, on possible somatic and local organ derangements due to sub-optimum input on psychological
medicine. A Psychology Professor from West Australia indicated, out of every 5 patients with chest pain, only one would really
have genuine heart disease; others have psychological problems. Psychological disturbances vary, especially for sensory and
cognitive disturbances - these have bizarre manifestations so that where it hurts, the disease site is not actually there. Thus,
disease management should not be taken on the face value of the symptoms, otherwise anxieties and depressions would be
missed.
