Despite modern concepts,
diet myths still persist: (1) "Veg-
etable prices indicate their nu-
trition" but different factors gov-
ern the 2 parameters (2) "Mild
heat for vegetables preserves
nutrition" but high heat, short
frying time preserves vitamins
better than stewing (3) "Raw
eggs are more nutritious" but
digestion is difficult; Salmonella
bacteria are not killed even with
soaking in beer (4) "Milk and
soybeans taken together are
poisonous" but both emit gases
upon digestion, stimulating the
gut - far from poisoning (5) "Af-
ter much labour, take more
meat & fish" but too much of
such oily food worsens the tired-
ness (6) "Fruits serve as a nor-
mal meal" but there is scanty
protein and inadequate vita-
mins & minerals (7) "Vinegar
softens the arteries" but too
much vinegar irritates the stom-
ach and causes inflammation
(8) "Better take bean sprouts
without the bean" but the main
nutrition is gone (9) "Categories
of food can be combined any-
how" but 50% carbohydrates +
35% protein + 15% fat is more
scientific (10) "The more
vitamins, the better" but side
effects do occur (11) "Veg-

more nutrition.
