WHY IS DANCING
BENEFICIAL TO OUR
BODIES?
My retired old friend Huang
was in poor shape but Latin danc-
ing had transformed him. The
couple got rid of the sense of
redundancy, depression and
loneliness. His "3 highs": blood
p r essu r e , l i p i ds and suga r
(diabetes) all went down; his
coronaries, no more, and backache
(prolapsed intervertebral discs),
gone; he had also attained a better
waistline. Latin dance benefits us
by: (1) as headaches are often re-
lated to suboptimal blood supply to
the brain, frequent, vigorous but
rhythmic neck movements optimize
the blood supply. (2) As senile de-
mentia is already an immense and
ever-worsening problem in China,
prevention is crucial - through the
precise and close movement col-
laboration between Latin dance
partners as well as enhanced so-
cial activities and an enlightening,
musical environment. (3) As each
set of movement requires an aver-
age waist twisting 160-180 times;
energy required is best for weight
reduction; better circulation to the
pelvis and reproductive organs
would also enhance hormonal pro-
duction and sexuality. (4) Through
a succession of precise and grace-
ful body movements, self confi-
dence is progressively enhanced.
