Potential Pitfalls of “High Class” Salts
The so-called high-class salts are: (1) Pink salt: the emphasis is on having >80 natural minerals and trace elements, but, apart from its
higher silicon content, most other common food items also have comparable amounts of minerals and trace elements: the very high
price cannot be justified as there is no agreed daily requirement for silicon (2) Iodized salt: as sea salt does not contain iodine, this is
valuable for preventing thyroid diseases due to iodine deficiency, e.g., in those lacking abundant and regular dietary seafood nor sea
weeds (3) Selenium-rich salt: As selenium is an essential trace element and also relevant for cancer prevention, salt containing sodium
selenite are worthwhile (4) Zinc-rich salt: by adding zinc sulfate or zinc gluconate to iodized salt, it is worthwhile, as zinc is an essential
trace element of the body for normal growth, development and enhancement of body immunity (5) Hematinic salt: As our Country has
high incidence of iron-deficiency anaemia, salt containing iron salts, e.g., ferrous sulfate, is worthwhile (6) Low-sodium salt: normally,
for table salt, the percentage of sodium chloride to potassium chloride is 95:5; if sodium chloride is reduced to 65%, other ingredients
(mainly potassium chloride and magnesium sulphide) have to be added. Ask your doctor!
