Although insulin antagonism is insensitivity to insulin: glucose level rises as one fails to enable cellular uptake of glucose from the
blood, yet, not all diabetics should receive insulin supplements, e.g., for obese or overweight patients, the use of insulin would not
only have suboptimal glucose control effects but also worsening of obesity risking even worse risks for hypertension, high cholesterol
and cerebrovascular diseases: avoid this indiscriminate use of insulin. Yet others are afraid of using insulin, even though they are
already taking 4-5 different anti-diabetic drugs: risking poor diabetic control and even inducing liver and kidney damage: after that,
even shifting to insulin, the effectiveness would be less: prompt use of insulin helps to reduce organ damage and may even reduce the
degree of insulin resistance. Side effects of insulin usage are: pain at injection site; leakage of insulin, especially with the intermediate-
and long-acting insulin: blockage of needle may occur: discard needles after a single use; bruising of skin: would go off; extra fatty
deposits may develop at a frequent site: vary the site for better absorption; allergic reactions: less with recombinant insulin; skin
infection: better injection hygiene is required; insulin antibodies: use recombinant insulin; local swelling is temporary.
