Controversies on Milk & Health
A controversy on milk is its casein may ironically cause loss of calcium and hence osteoporosis… Worse than this is its bacteria,
antibiotics and bovine growth hormone for enhancing milk production of cows. Bovine growth hormone in milk has already caused
larger breast sizes and earlier menarche in US youngsters: increasing their risks of having breast cancer in later life. As the American
Dairy Association has such strong political and economical power, not much can be done to remedy the situation. With 120 lbs per
day of excreta, these cows pose environmental pollution problems. Milk and dairy products are the main culprit for the high incidence
of obesity in the US. The fat content of a glass of milk is equivalent to 8 pieces of bacon. Half-and-half (50% milk + 50% light cream)
has even higher fat content than milk. The so-called “2% milk” appears to have 98% less fat, but, in fact, this is only 1% less than the
usual fat content (3%) of milk. As 95% of Asians are lactose-intolerant, lactose in milk demands us to substitute with soy bean and soy
bean products: a “blessing in disguise” for us, as much of the Westerners’ stomach ache, diarrhea, bloated tummy and even diabetes
are all due to prolong milk consumption.
