I FOUGHT WITH INSOMNIA
FOR 30 YEARS
Born a neurotic, I have
been fighting with insomnia for
30 years - mostly since my first
baby was born. Physical exer-
c i ses he l p r ead i l y t hen .
However, with my increasing
workload, it no longer seemed
to work. I struggled on despite
obvious lack of sleep but signs
of aging were obvious. I then
fought it again together with 220
million Chinese, otherwise my
concentration, immunity and
health would suffer. Traditional
Chinese physicians say it is
mal-adjustment of the "liver
heat". I resumed my physical
exercises and deliberately
cycled to work.Warm water leg
soaking and milk drinking be-
fore retiring were also tried -
some success. Since those
aged >30, secretion of melato-
nin decreases, I also tried me-
latonin supplements, a hor-
mone secreted by the posterior
pituitary. Fortunately, it helped
as I am against depending on
regular sleeping pills. The most
effective method is to walk for
40 minutes or more - it helped
my circulation and I really felt
so tired that I can now manage
to sleep for 8 to 9 hours. Just
hope my story on insomnia
would help others.
