Chronic kidney failure
is
a
com-
mon
clinical condition. Symptoms
are
tiredness,
loss of
drive, poor
appetite,
nausea and vomiting, emaciation,
leg
swelling,
high blood pressure,
etc.
When
the
patient is pale, has general-
ized
weakness
and high
blood
pressure,
the
diagnosis
of
kidney
f
ailure may not be obvious, especially
when anaemia
is
found on examinalion
of
the
blood, he may undergo a series
of
tests
and even treated as for iron-
deficiency anaemia before
realizing
that
he has kidney failure. ln some patients,
the
presentation
of
nausea and vomit-
ing may be mistaken as digestive tract
diseases and investigated
as
such,
e.
9.,
with endoscopic examination before
realizing the
kidney
failure.Yet
in
others,
the presentation of dizziness
coupled
with the high blood pressure may bring
them
to a
cardiac
clinic
and investigated
as
for heart
disease before realizing
there is
kidney failure.
As the
blood
pressure
rises,
the
kidneys
are
adversely affected and,
in
turn,
would
bring the blood pressure to even higher
levels.
There
is
thus
a
"vicious cycle"
and
it
is
important
to find
the
real culprit.
Thus, patients with high blood pressure
should nol
just
assume that taking of
anti-hypertension drugs to control the
high blood pressure
is
adequate
-
con-
sull your doctor as high blood pressure
can
lead
to
kidney
failure
and
vice
versa.
