ULTRA.SOUND SCANS
MAY
"PREDICT''
CORONARIES
As
coronaries
have now become
the "number
1
killer",
many patients
become depressed
after
being diag-
nosed as such. ln fact,
coronaries
may
be predicted.
The
key
is
to discover as
early as possible and try to manage
lhe
precipitating factors, e.9., atherosclero-
sis or
hardening
of the
coronary
arteries,
by
the
use
of
modern ultra-
sound scans. Moreover, as ultra-sound
has
no
radiation,
there
is no risk in
re-
peating it as often as desired.
Hence,
ior
those subjects in whom there
are
known precipitating factors
already,
such as smoking, high blood pressure,
diabetes,
over-weight,
high blood cho-
lesterol or family history of coronaries,
etc.,
the
monitoring
of
possible early
atherosclerotic changes may
be
worthwhile.
lt
may be feasible
to
use
some form of medications in
a
desper-
ate
atlempt
to
reverse
very
early
changes
of
atherosclerosis. Such medi-
cations may include the so-called "anti-
oxidants" and some traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM)
herbal
preparalions
such
as
the "red sage root", or
dan
shen.The author reported anecdotal
in-
cidences
of dan
shen
reversing
non-cal-
cified (early) atherosclerosis and
also
mentioned that dan shen
is
also
a
des-
ignated
treatment
for
angina (a lesser
form of coronaries)
at
TCM hospitals
in
China.
The
main thing is
to
consult
a
qualified Specialist and monitor
regu-
larly
the heart,
blood pressure
and
diabetes,
if
any.
