THE DIABETIC
FOOT
Diabetes
is a
common
and
chronic
disease.
As the high
blood
sugar level damages the blood vessels
and the nerves, the foot
is
very
liable
to
ulceration, infection and tissue
death,
especially
for
those elderly
patients
with
10
or
more
years' history
ol
diabetes.
These patients should have
regular
check up, control
their
diet,
avoid
walking
bare footed,
wear appropriate
socks and shoes
and
have regular
lower limb
exercises.
Daily washing
with warm water and wiping clean and
dry afterwards are also recommended.
