HEM0RRH0IDS:THE
TREATMENT
AND
PREVENTI()N
The condition
general
called
hemorrhoids
can
be
divided into three
components
as
follows: abnormal
prolapse
of
upper anal and lower
rectal
mucosa;
venous
engorgement
in the submucosa of
the
upper
anal canal; and
protuberances
at the
anal
margin
commonly
called skin tags or
external
hemorrhoids.
These
can
be
exist
independently
or
each
other,
but
all three are
usually
found together.
Most patients
suffering
from
hemorrhoids
considered
the
problem
a
very
common
condition without major
clinical
importance. However,
in
many
patients severe anemia
caused
by
chronic anorectal
bleeding
may frequently be
en-
countered. Other
local
complications
and
infection
may occur
in
most
patients,
resulting
in
severe anal pain.
ln
many
patients
hemor-
roids
symptoms
can be
re-
lieved
by
paying
attention
to
local
hygiene
and by
avoiding
excessive straining
during
defecation. Therapeutic
pro-
cedures include local
injection
with
sclerosing
substances,
rubber
band
ligation,
cryotheray
and
more
invasive
operative techniques
etc.
