Would Drinking Lead to Cancer? An Analysis by Prof Jin Changfeng:

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) based in Lyon, France, drinking only 3 glasses of wine may
already lead to liver cancer; moreover, with every 10G of alcohol (equivalent to the alcohol contained in a glass of wine) being
consumed, the risk of having liver cancer rises by 4%. Chronic drinkers are found to have higher risks of liver, oral cavity, gullet
(esophagus), stomach, colon, throat and breast cancers. According to a 10-year New Zealand study, chronic drinkers do have more
oropharynx, throat, oesophagus, liver, colon, rectum and breast cancers. Other studies have also found 5.5% of all cancers to be
related to drinking; let alone 1/30 of all cancer deaths are also related to drinking. Although drinking in moderation may be good for
health, we should nevertheless drink sparingly, ie, not more than 25G of alcohol (equivalent to 1 bottle of beer or 250 ml wine); avoid
drinking spirits, not even some of those very prestigious liquors like Moutai or Wu Liang Ye; avoid drinking on an empty stomach;
drinking and also smoking are worse: it has been documented that those who smoke and drink have a 15.5 times higher risks of having
oral cavity cancers as compared with teetotalers. If you ever drink for compelling reasons, take it by seeps; never big gulps!
