MINOR
AILMENTS
GOOD
FOR
YOUR
HEALTH
Although minor ailments
are
bothersome, they may
be
good
for
your
health:
(1)
Fever: any body
temperature >97"C;
the
body
is
stepping
up
the
defense
system.
Better
not
to bring
it
down
promptly,
unless the
fever
is
too
high,
say,
>38.5"C.
lf
so, or,
if
there
are
rashes, intense
headache,
joint
pain,
convulsions,
etc., consult
your
doctor at once. Otherwise, take
a
rest,
drink
more water. (2) Cough:
a reflex action
originating
in
the
res-
piratory system
to
get rid
of
un-
wanted secretions or even
patho-
genic
organisms. Better
not
to
sup-
press
the cough
promptly. Avoid
spicy and chilly
food.
lf
cough
is
fre-
quent
or
if there
is
fever,
yellow
phlegm, chest pain or even weight
loss, consult your doctor at
once.
(3)
Nose bleeding: may be
of
no
significance
if
very occasional: fin-
gers
pinching
the
nose
for
a few
minutes
helps to stop
the bleeding.
lf
not,
or
if it bleeds again, consult
your doctor
-
it
may
be a
symptom
of high blood pressure or even
can-
cer of the nose. (4) Diarrhea: the
body
is
trying to get
rid
of
unwanted
toxic matter from the gut.
lf
exces-
sive or
accompanied by
tummy
ache, fever,
vomiting,
etc., go
to
the
hospital at once.
(5)
Vomiting: also
gets
rid
of
unwanted
toxic
matter;
the same
principles
apply.
