There
are
200,000 species

creatures,

medicinal

from the ocean
in

tion "Compendium of Materia Medica",
e.9., the poisonous nature of puffer fish
forms the
basis of
tetrodontoxin derived
from that

potions, e.9., seaweed for goiter. Con-
temporary ocean medical products are:

seaweed,

drug controlling

pertension

liver
of
the puffer fish, anti-cancer
drug;

cuttlefish and
oyster,
anti-cancer drugs;
from the hawksbill turtle,
a
drug
for
lung
cancer;
from
a
Hawaiian
coral,
an
effective
drug for
leukemia;
from other
tropical corals,
an
anti-ulcer
agent;
from
a
poisonous seaweed,
a
local anes-
thetic
that
is better than procaine; from
sea
shell, zinc and
calcium;
from fatty
fishes, omega-3,
etc.
The list goes
on
especially for
a
country
like China with
such
a
long coastline.
