LOW BLOOD PRESSURE
IS
ALSO
A
MAIN CAUSE
OF
STROKE
Most people would know that too
high
a
blood pressure
would
lead to
stroke. However, when the blood pres-
sure
is lower
than 105/60
and
there are
symptoms associated
with such
low
blood pressure, the abnormal pressure
should be rectified. Of course, blood
pressure can drop very acutely
when
there
is significant blood loss due to
active
bleeding, e.9.,
from
an accident
or when an internal organ
is
severely
affected
by
cancer erosion
or
when se-
rious ulceration occurs, e.9.,
a
large
stomach ulcer may bleed
profusely.
More
often,
low blood pressure occurs
more insidiously, e.9.,
because
of
chronic
or
generalized
infection,
debilitation, etc.;
in
these cases, the low
blood pressure would worsen gradually
but progressively. Such patients would
have symptoms of tiredness, muscle
weakness, lethargy, dizziness,
poor
memory,
etc.
Unfortunately,
with
ageing, the
blood
vessel would become
more rigid and
the
body would
then
be
unable
to
make
the necessary
adjust-
ments to
rectify
the low blood pressure.
The worst
is
that, during
night time,
when the patient is asleep, the
blood
pressure would drop
lurther;
it is at
this
time that a stroke may occur. Consult
your
doctor.
Apart from
medical
treat-
ment
for
correction,
one
should also
take
better nutrition
and
regular
mild
exercises and adequate salt
in
the
diet.
