AN
INTERVIEW WITH PROF ZHOU
Prof Zhou
Yan
Qin of
the
Nanling
TCM University is a famous National
TCM Specialist in
Kidney Diseases.
Ever busy
with
not
only medical
prac-
tice
but
also research
and
teaching, she
has in-depth understanding of
kidney
deficiency and nephritis
(infection and
degeneration)
since
the 70's. She
be-
lieves
that the stfength
of
the
qi of the
kidney
directly
affects the well-being
and
disease
resistance of
the
whole
body.
Nephritis
patients are
often
defi-
cient
in
the qi and the yin, as precipi-
tated by damp, heat, poison or
evil
factors. Treatment
should focus on
re-
storing the qi and to cultivate the yin,
neutralize the poison and eradicate the
damp. Attention should also be paid
to
the
primary cause
of
the
kidney
disease
and
treat accordingly.
A
holistic
ap-
proach
is
mandatory. Kidney circulation
stasis must be reactivated; the
lungs,
re-aerated;
the
spleen, strengthened so
that
excessive body
water would
be
excreted. She has
incorporated all
her
father's academic teachings and suc-
cessfully develop them
further. lt
is re-
markable that she has
also
worked with
co-workers
to
develop
a
software for
TCM treatment
of kidney
diseases, con-
taining
828
messages on symptoms;
316 diseases
and 50
associated
conditions; 739 practicable potions;
dit
ferential diagnosis on
13
kidney system
diseases.
She also
has
numerous
pa-
pers and
books.
With excellent
medi-
cal ethics,
Prof
Zhou is kind,
passion-
ate
and
highly approachable.
