HERBAL
SOUP
ANDTEA
RECIPES
FOR HEPATITIS
B
PATIENTS
Soups and
tea for
hepatitis
B
patients
may
speed
up
recovery
but
can
never
take the place of medication. The
choice of the many recipes is usually
according
to
the
symptoms
and
presentation, e.9., whether there are
signs of
damp
or
heat, symptoms of
dizziness, constipation, tea-coloured
urine,
dull
aching
tummy
pain,
distension,
loss
of
appetite, furred
tongue,
etc.
As
the
liver function
is
sig-
nilicantly
deranged, oily soups
are
not
appropriate and only lean meat,
e.9.,
lean pork, fish, clams
or
wild duck, etc.,
should
be used -
digestion
of
oil
or fat
would definitely require the
liver
to work
harder
in
order to produce more
bile
for
fat
digestion.
lt
is
also
appropriate
to
add
some sugar in the
tea
preparations
(drank instead
of
the
usual
tea prepared
from tea leaves),
e.9.,
some
brown
or
rock sugar so as
to
relieve
the
extra
burden of
the
liver to
churn
out sugars
to
maintain
the
required blood sugar
levels.
Some soups contain items
like
ling-zhi, gou-qi-zi, nu-zhen-zi, etc.,
that
helps body resistance and
to
nourish
the
liver, in particular, herbs like yin-
chen
and
ji-gu-cao
may help
to
relieve
the liver
qi or
to clear the yellow associ-
ated
with
liver derangement; herbs like
tu-fuling
may help
to manage
the
damp
and the toxins.
