CARDIO.VASCULAR
DISEASES ARE
EVOLVING
With
the
good control of infectious
diseases, the population is now ageing
progressively.
Thus, cardio-vascular
diseases appearing in all age groups
are now more
and
more prevalent and
deaths lrom these
are also
commonest.
Amongst
these
non-infectious
diseases, life style
is
highly relevant as
causative factors.
Even
psycho-social
and environmental factors are also
relevant.
Amongst these
are
cardio-vas-
cular
diseases, coronaries,
high blood
pressure and stroke, etc. As
the
popu-
lation in China
is
so
rapidity ageing, all
these
non-infectious
diseases
in the
elderly would sooner or later become
the most prevalent disease entity
in
our
Country.
The less obvious ones
are
those heart diseases associated with
infections,
e.9.,
rheumatic
heart
dis-
eases
- in
fact, their incidence
rates
are
slowly decreasing
as
infection
is
better
controlled. Unfortunately, heart dis-
eases associated with viral
infections,
e.9.,
viral infection
of
the heart muscles,
may be on
the
increase, since
viral
in-
fections are
not
so readily controlled as
bacterial ones. Live
a
regular lilestyle
-
adequate sleep, well-balanced
diet,
regular physical exercises; keep
an
open mind, avoid stresses as much as
feasible;
refrain
from smoking and
ex-
cessive drinking, over-eating; avoid ex-
cessive fat and
salt
intake as well as
cholesterol-rich
food -
internal
organs,
egg
yolk,
caviar, squid, etc.
