Diabetes
is getting
more
and
more
common.

commonplace.

diabetics, diabetics
have

the risk
of having
coronaries;

kidney

of having bilateral

Hence, early diagnosis and
effective treatment is

For
those >45 years of age, the test should
be repeated

of obesity,
direct relatives of diabetics, history of
giving birth to large babies, hyperten-
sion

high triglyceride levels,
etc,
should
have even more
frequent testing.
The
risk
of having complications
is
pro-
portional
to
the duration of uncontrolled
diabetes.
The purpose
of
treatment
is
to
relieve
symptoms, raise the quality
of
life,
prevent complications and to re-
duce death
rates.
Control your
diet;
have
appropriate exercises;
reduce
weight; stop smoking;
treat
hyperten-
sion
and
reduce high blood lipid levels.
Above all, see your
doctor
regularly.
