THE HEALTH
PROMOTING
PROPERTIES
OF
MAGNETISM
The earth
is
a
giant magnetic field
and, since
ancient
times, diseases have
been attributed to disturbed magnetism
and
attempts
to "rectify" the magnetic
imbalance were
made.
A
very remark-
able study
in
Japan also showed that
those high-rise inhabitants may
have
lesser influence
by
the earth's magnetic
field
and
they
may even
have
symptoms
of
muscle
weakness,
tiredness, lack of concentration, loss
of
appetite and even
insomnia
and
dizziness
etc.
ln
the long
history of
Chinese
Traditional
Medicine, there
were
many instances
whereby
magnetism were
used to
treat illnesses.
Even Greek and French physicians
had
also
used magnetism
for
illnesses.
ln
modern medicine, the closest relation-
ship between medicine and magnetism
is
that
of magnetic resonance imaging
- an
imaging technique
to
map
out
proton density
of
the
body
tissues
but
the
magnetism
is
not
relevant
to
therapy.
Nevertheless,
certain
pulsed
electromagnetic fields were
investi-
gated and found to affect the
groMh of
bone and cartilage experimentally and
may
be
useful
for
delayed fractures,
some osteoporosis and probably
also
bone necrosis but much further studies
are
required.
