ln Tennessee, USA, an apparent
traffic accident with a badly burnt body
of a driver was found to contain burnt
maggots.
The forensic pathologist
estimated the
time of
death
to
be at
least
18 days ago and
this
was later
confirmed.
The dead body was,
in
lact,
put to
the driver's
seat
to
mimic
traffic
accident
death.
The
time
estimation
was based
on
the
time
required for the
flies
to
lay eggs
and for the
eggs to
hatch
to maggots.
Flies are able to
smell
the
presence of
a
corpse even 2
miles
away.
Another accused
was
proven innocent of
a
murder taking
place
in
the
evening.
As maggots were
found
in
the
dead
body,
the murder was
estimated
to
be 10-16 hours
ago.

any case, flies do not lay eggs
in
the
dark.

by a
sickle blade
took
place in mid-summer
was solved

observing flies gather-
ing on
one
particular
sickle
blade
owned
by
