As
coronary
heart disease
takes
many years
to
manifest, usually
in
middle age,
it
is
worthwhile
to
take good
care ol the
heart at
a
much younger
age.
Avoid animal fat or food high
in
cholesterol:
take
lean meat, fish, fresh
fruits
and
vegetables, and not
more
than an egg a
day.
Soy bean, black
fungus, shitaki
mushroom,
etc.,
can
prevent atheroslerosis (hardening of
arteries).
Take less carbohydrates like
rice, sweets to avoid weight
gain.
Limit
salt
intake to
the minimum
to
avoid high
blood
pressure.
Steady, progressive
and
regular exercises reduce
body
weight
and the
heart's burden;
the
coro-
naries
are
also
less likely
to
be
blocked.
Mental stress predisposes to coronary
heart diseases
and
high blood
pressure.
Be
optimistic and cordial; avoid
haste
and losing
temper.
High blood choles-
terol
and
blood
pressure
must be
con-
trolled as directed
by
the
doctor.
Avoid
overeating and overweight;
have
regular physical
exercises.
Stop
smoking
as
soon as
possible.
All
these
would
do
your
heart
a
lot of
good
and
you
would
live longer.
