Many
of
the the
theories
about
the
origins accelerated atherosclerosis sug-
gested that the prevalence or incidence
of stroke syndrome may be closely re-
lated to biologic, demographic, and so-
cial variables such as
hypertension,
high blood pressure,
hyperlipidemia
and cigarette smoking, abnormal
glu-
cose tolerance, obesity, psychic or
emotional stress,
etc.
However,
new
findings from epidemiologic studies re-
cently conducted
in
many geographic
areas
in
China
show
that
there
is
a
posi-
tive relationship between a
low serum
level
of
cholesterol and high prevalence
of stroke syndrome. For instance,
an
epidemiologic survey by Du, Fu-chang
from
Nanjing Medical University found
that
the
main blood level of cholesterol
in
a group
of
total
1809
people either
from
cities or countryside of Jiangsu
Province was 138m9%, 35 persons
re-
ported stroke syndrome. Thus, the au-
thor
of
the
paper suggested that
antihypertension therapy and supple-
ment with
fish proteins may
have pro-
tective effect on stroke syndrome.
