FREQUENT
IS
CARCINOMA
OF
THE
CERVIX
TAKING PLACE?
It is important
to
know
that
next
to carcinoma of
the
breast, carcinoma
of the
cervix
is,
the
most
frequent
ma-
lignant
tumor
in
the
human
female.
lt
accounts several times as often
as
adenocarcinoma
of
the
endometrium.
Together these
two kill
more women
than all other genital tumors combined.
Carcinoma of the cervix accounts
for
approximately 130/100,000
-

100,000.
There are no evident predis-
posing factors in the development of
cervical
cancer.
However,
carcinoma
of
the cervix
is
more frequent
in
parous
women than in nulliparal in a ratio of
eight to
one.
For
this
reason childbirth
lacerations, eversion and erosions of
the
cervix have been considered
to
be
factors
in
the development
of
cervical
cancer.
Carcinoma of the cervix
is
ex-
tremely
rare
in
women who
have
sexual
intercourse only with
circumcised
males. lt
has been suggested that
smegma
is
a carcinogenic factor
and
that
penile cleanliness plays
a
major
role in reducing
the
incidence of carci-
noma of the cervix.
