Hypertension arises with (1) Increased peripheral resistance would increase the load on cardiac output (2) Loss of elasticity of arterial
walls; narrowed lumen further increases peripheral resistance (3) With the less production of nitrogen monoxide, the arterial wall fails
to relax normally (4) Inadequate blood supply to the kidneys (due to hardening of the supply artery): rennin being secreted activates
angiotensin, making all capillaries contract and peripheral resistance further increases. Hypertension leads to (1) Heart enlargement,
with increased oxygen requirement: if oxygen is too insufficient, shortness of breath ensues (2) All arteries become atherosclerotic
and narrowed, peripheral resistance increases further and hypertension worsens; events like stroke may ensue. Better reduce weight
and salt (<6g/day), fat, red meat, sweets, sugary drinks, all smoking and excessive drinking; take more dietary potassium, magnesium,
calcium, veggies, fibers, low-fat milk products, whole cereal, white meat and nuts. Take regular physical exercises. Be open minded:
anger activates the parasympathetic, releases endorphins: peripheral resistance is up: aggregation of platelets and clots ensue; avoid
rapid posture changes, lest dizziness ensues. Consult your physician!
