Microcirculation & Health
Our microcirculation shuttles oxygen, carbon dioxide; nutrients and wastes; its purposeful rhythmic contractions / dilatations are
like a “second heart”; the arterio-venous shunts bypass the tiny capillary network as required: controlled by the parasympathetic
nervous system and chemicals: endorphins contract; lactic acid and carbon dioxide relax; regulates our body temperature: by opening
/ closing the shunts of our skin, palms, sole and ears. In shock, as blood is shunted, the oxygen lack requires prompt correction. In
hypertension, vessels contract but the shunting cannot relieve the pressure. In coronaries, the capillaries, shunts and the arterioles (small
arteries) are all malfunctioning. In diabetes, high blood sugar levels damage the inner endothelial cell lining: complications ensue;
bacteria-containing blood also not barred. For best health of our microcirculation, take regular physical exercises; extra vitamin C and
P (in citrus fruits, apricot, dates, tomato, buckwheat); balanced diets and adequate water, avoid sugary foods, smoking (nicotine and tar
contracts blood vessels) and excessive drinking (atherosclerosis). Take life easy!
