Appropriate Work: Good for Your Health & Longevity
According to the International Committee on Active Aging, work brings about an appropriate stress and promotes our subconscious
powers so that one may maintain a healthy state. Those elderly happy to assist others would have a 60% less chance of early death.
According to a group of community medicine for the elderly in Beijing, in China, those elderly who insist on working after retirement
would ironically live longer than those who do not. According to a 26-year study on 3,500 workers (Shell Oil Corporation) retiring at
55, 60 and 65, those low-income male workers retiring at 55 lived shortest; those high-income female workers retiring at 65 lived the
longest. The US National Institute on Aging collected the physiological and psychological changes of 12,000 Americans aged 51-61
and noting their status on hypertension, diabetes, cancers and lung diseases: their analysis showed that, retirees engaging in “transient
work” had 17% less chance of falling sick. As living far too leisurely leads to a sense of loss and may even promote our system
degeneration as well as affect our longevity, appropriate (but not excessive) tension is actually beneficial to our heath!
