PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE: PROTECT THE KIDNEYS: PREVENT KIDNEY DISEASES
As early kidney diseases have no symptoms, 20-30% of hospital kidney patients already have irreversible kidney damage. As
kidney failure is so common and kidney dialysis is so costly, better discover abnormalities early on. Reduction of the kidney
blood flow leads to poor filtration and reduced urine output. Hypertension often causes chronic kidney damage - the small
kidney arteries also become hardened; limiting the blood flow. As the kidneys are not only the target damage organ for hypertension,
but also they are involved with the regulation of the blood pressure, a vicious cycle forms. Uncontrolled diabetes would eventually
damage the kidneys - related to increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) that damages the kidneys but antioxidants offer
protection. Chronic nephritis is related to infection, obstruction and other causes; the result is progressive kidney destruction.
Have regular "urine routine" checks and blood tests for kidney function. Refrain from prolonged urine holding as this may lead to
reflux of bacteria in the urine to the kidneys; be kind to kidney arteries: no overeating nor excessive cholesterol, fat or salty diets!
