SHE HERSELF HAS
SOLVED THE
"CONSTIPATION" PROBLEM
F o r h e r s t u b b o r n
constipation, a 40-year-old,
newly-promoted Section Chief
Xiao Jin employed laxatives re-
peatedly but her constipation ac-
tually got worse. Doctors advised
her that laxatives should not be
used repeatedly otherwise the
strong stimulus of laxatives would
reduce the sensitivity of the gut
to the weaker stimuli from rough-
age in the gut so that the gut be-
comes "lazier" each time, let
alone laxatives would also have
s i de e f fec t s t hemse l ves.
Preferably, take regular physical
exercises to stimulate the bowel,
e.g., walking, gentle running,
body exercises and equipment
exercises as provided by the
physical development authorities.
Let the bowels open naturally
each day, preferably in the morn-
ing so that it becomes a regular
body habit - even though there is
no frank urge, try to "sit in" for 10
to 20 minutes to cultivate such a
natural bowel habit. When the
bowel movement urge comes,
never hold it indefinitely. Take
more food with rough fibres, e.
g., unpolished grains, fibre-rich
fruits and vegetables. Drink at
least a few glasses of water each
day. Avoid too much barbecued
or deep-fried food. Above all, ten-
sion relief is also relevant.
