]ttlANKIND:MYVIEWS
ON
EXPEDITING MODERNIZATION OF
TCM MEDICATION
The value
of
production of Chi-
nese herbal patent medicine went
up
from <2 billion
in
1984 to 28.5 billion
dollars
in 2000; to cater
for
more,
after
China's accession to the
World Trade
Organization
(WTO):
(1)To
expedite
the
construction of National TCM
innova-
tive technology exploration:
selection,
assessment
of efficacy, satety, clinical
application, adverse effect monitoring
and production
technology.
Workman-
ship
quality control research: plantation,
research, exploration,
organic
production; coordinate development of
the
TCM production base; reinforce the
TCM National Engineering
&
Technol-
ogy
Research
Center.
(2) Consolidate
and
to
perfect TCM standards
and
regulations. The setting up ol
the
inter-
national ideal of "Good Agricultural
Practice" (GAP) regulations
and
"Good
Manufacturing Practice" (GMP) regula-
tions
are
the
prerequisites before TCM
can
go into
the
international market.
(3) Using just
a
few top-sales products
that are
readily marketable and with
proven
effectiveness
-
to penetrate the
international
mainstream markets.
(4)
Using
the
leadership afforded
by
large enterprises duly supported
by
preterential National policies, to estab-
lish modernization
of
TCM. (5)
Estab-
lish multi-channel
involvements:
train-
ing and education on
hitech
modern-
ization
of
TCM. (6) Using
a
multi-disci-
pline
background,
to
elucidate TCM
effectiveness and mechanism
of
action.
