A miraculous story was told ol
a
construction
site worker
who
had a steel
rod
1.5
m long (diameter
1
cm)
that
accidentally dashed through his skull
bone
going
in
from
his
forehead
pierc-
ing
right
through the skull bone and the
brain; came out through the occipital
region, at the back, above the neck. He
fainted instantly and
bled profusely.
At
the Jiangsu
Province,
Jiangyin
City
Peoples'
Hospital, after sawing
otf the
protruding part
of
the
rod,
the
neuro-
surgeon found,
by CT
scanning, the
rod
had
pierced through
the
frontal
lobe
and
the
left
ventricle (containing brain fluid)
of
the
brain
and came
out
through
the
occipital lobe, piercing 20 cm of
brain
substance
-
a
very
rare accident.
After
operating on
him for
3
hours, the
steel
rod
was
finally
removed
successfully: bleeding along the tract
controlled; microvascular surgery
was
resorted
to
for
the best
repair of the
brain trauma. After surgery, he
had
signs of mild brain damage and distur-
bance of electrolytes (secondary to the
brain
damage),
high fever,
stress
ulcer
of
the stomach,
etc. However,
he recov-
ered
fully from
all
these, including men-
tal
power.
He was fully self-sufficient;
the only ditference was that
he
tends
to
be more
inlrovert
than before.
