Walking
is
an effective sports
activity as well as the best way leading
to
longevity.

be
undertaken
at
any
time, any place and at
a
pace that suits
the individual.
Unlike
other more strenu-
ous sports, it would not cause signifi-
cant sports
injury.
The only drawback
is
that more
is
required as compared
to
other
more strenuous exercises to
accomplish the same
or
equivalent
physical effects. Hence,
it
should
be
most suitable
for older
people, the
obese and those with chronic diseases.
Brisk walking
is
also
very popular
in
the
West. However,
care
must be taken
to
ensure the correct posture when under-
taking brisk walking, eg, make
sure
that
the spine
is
straight, the stride is larger
than
the
usual walking stride, etc.;
in
one
day,
there should
be
no
less
than
60
minutes
of brisk
walking;
try
to
continue for at least
20
minutes in one
stretch
so
that other organs, e.9., the
lungs and the heart are exercising
as
well;
the pace of brisk walking should
also
be
according
to
one's
health
status,
physique and amount of
regular exer-
cise
up to
that
point in time.
