MULTIPLE PREGNANCY
Many people
has
a
false
beliel
that pregnancies with multiple foetuses,
e.9.,
twins
or
triplets or
more foetuses
are
a kind
of blessing.
ln
fact, the womb
is
designed to take only one foetus and
even
the
blood supply and
nutrition
would
be
grossly
inadequate.
Obviously,
to
have so many foetuses
inside
the womb
means
there is
not
enough
to
share, whether space
or
nutrition.
The result
is
that all
of them
would
be
sub-standard
in size,
anaemic
and
undeveloped. Moreover,
the
chances of
difficult
labour as
well
as
complications would be much higher
than normal pregnancies.
Even the
mother
would
be
anaemic as a
result.
As upon
delivery
blood
loss
would also
be greater,
the
anaemia would worsen
still,
let
alone
all the difficulties
of
taking care of so many babies all
at
the
same
time after delivery - it
is
lust
like
running a nursery
but
without
any
necessary staff and
support!.When
we
understand all
the
implications
and
adverse effects, we can easily
under-
stand that,
in
fact, multiple pregnancy
is not
a blessing
but
a
kind of a curse.
We
should therefore consult
the
specialist
doctor when
managing
infertility
-
never
try any fertility
medi-
cine unless prescribed
by
the
doctor.
ln case of
doubt,
multiple pregnancies
must be detected as early as feasible.
