MANAGEMENT
OF
MENSTRAL
DISORDERS
BY
THE
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE
PHYSICIAN
The
physique normally undergoes
natural maturation, development
as
well
as
metabolic and structural changes
and
the
result
is
good
appearance,
appetite, sleep, regular bowels
and
menses, pregnancy, child birth
and
lactation. However, a pathological phy-
sique
is because of either inborn inad-
equacies or ol chronic
ill
health, exces-
sive worries,
lack
of adequate rest, etc.
Such
a
physique
is
in between good
health and sickness.
For
example, even
with the similar degrees of exposure
to
cold climate and, e.9., drenched with
heavy downpour, those deficient
in
"yang" would be more prone to catch
cold than those deficient
in'Vin";
this is
soon followed by blood stasis, block-
age of the "chong" and the "ren" chan-
nels tor optimum menstral
llow
and
painful periods result; even with
similar
degrees of overeating
and
indigestion,
those with
a'!in"
deficiency
physique
would get a larger blow so that
the
"chong" and
the "ren'channels lor
op-
timum menstral flow are disturbed and
menses come too early or too
much;
even with similar mental trauma,
those
with obstinate and rigid physiques
may
then become unduly disturbed block-
ing
the
"chong" "ren"
and
menses.
Hence,
the
mainstay
ol
treating
menstral disorders
is
to adjust the phy-
sique of
the
patient.
