Once,
a
young mother carrying her
year-old
baby
with
high
fever in
her
bosom on her way to
the
hospital
sud-
denly
witnessed
the
baby
going
into a
continuous
fit. She
was
so
shocked that
she fainted. The baby recovered
but,
the mother began to have shortness
of
breath that limits her physical activities;
later, she was confined
to
bed and
failed
to
do
anything.
She had
a
paradoxical
weight
gain
because
of
her
good
appetite. This had made
her
even more
difficult to mobilize and things were get-
ting worse.
She was
finally
referred
to
a general
hospital
where
all
tests
and
scans
found
her to be
normal
physically.
What she had
was
psychosis resulting
from
the
intense trauma dating back
to
the horror of witnessing her son sud-
denly going into continuous
fits
right
in
front of her eyes; an intense fear of not
being able to take care
of
her

chil-
dren developed. The only secure place
is
her bed
to
which she was
bound
mentally
-
escaping from
the
pressure
and fear of being unable
to
take care
of
her children. Upon explanation, sup-
portive measures, encouragement and
reassurance, she gradually recovered.
