ABSTRACTS
FROM
ANCIENT
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE
MEDI.
CINE
Despite some unavoidable errors
and omissions, these ancient publica-
tions do contain some information use-
ful
even
today.
Disease progressing
from bad to worse: Once an emperor
of Jin
had a serious illness and
re-
quested the neighbour country qin for
help. Meanwhile, the emperor dreamt
that two
evils inside him knew of the
competency of
the
incoming physician
and
hid
themselves well; the disease
thus turned from
bad
to worse.
Delib-
erately
digress
from
medical
intervention: Once
a
famous
physician
warned an emperor
of a
progressive
ill-
ness
but
got
only
deliberate digression;
finally, the emperor died. The "bible"
of
herbs: Having benefited from various
herbal treatment,
Li
decided to edit
a
bible volume for these herbs;
since
then, his bible became an authoritative
reference
till
this
day.
The lheory

lit
The ancient
theory
already
addressed
peace
at heart, avoid fatty
and
intense-taste
food.
Episodes
on
medicine already pointed out prescrip-
tion legibility issues;
use of the
common
herbal names; the acuity of
observation;
and
the
necessity of resting before
the
pulse was taken. Qualities
of a
respect-
able
ohysician: A
good physician
was
not
only competent but must
also
avoid
deliberate
acts for
fame
and criticizing
other physicians behind
their
back.
