THE
URINE
SPECIMEN
THAT
HAD
AFFECTED
A
NATIONAL
POLICY
Israel
wished to
determine the health
status
of
the
non-appearing
President
of
Syria,
considered
to
be
substantial for mu-
tual
peace
talks.
A "Mission
Impossible"
was undertaken
to
overcome
health
data
confidentiality.
After flying
to
Jordan
on
8
February
1999, the President was
"co-inci-
dentally"
led to
a
toilet for
hidden
collec-
tion of his urine
specimen.
Finally,
he was
believed to
have cancer, diabetes, heart
disease; even
the medications
he
was tak-
ing
was also
known. As
the
life
expectancy
was short, the
peace
talks were accelerated.
Even in
the
clinic,
a
lot of
information
can
be obtained
from
urine
contents,
e.g.,
proteins,
pus
or bacteria
signifu urinary tract
infection
and/or
chronic nephritis; blood
signifies
stones
and/or
tumour
ofthe uri-
nary tract,
acute
nephritis or
pyelitis;
hae-
moglobin signifies haemolytic
anaemia;
bilirubin
signifies
liver
damage or
obstruc-
tive
jaundice
due
to
"mechanical"
blockages; chyle signifies blockage
ofthe
lymphatic
system,
e.g., due
to
filaria
infestation.
Sugar and ketone
in
the urine
of
diabetics
is
well
known to
all.
Even
the
calcium
levels
may
signifr
abnormal func-
tion
ofthe
parathyroids
and
"Bence-Jones"
urine
is highly
suggestive
of
multiple
myeloma. Checks
for
metabolites
of
drug
ingested
as
practiced on athletes
is also
well
known.
