Electro-magnetic waves
from
mi-
crocomputer screens, colour television
sets and
mobile
telephones may
be
harmful to
the
human body. The
dura-
tion of
usage
is
directly
proportional
to
the
degree
of
harm done. The effect
may be either a heating or non-heating
in nature. Non-heating efiects may dis-
turb the
human nervous system and
may even
cause
brain
tumours -
how-
ever,
this
possibility is
still
subject to
further
study.
Magnetic fields are
pro-
duced
in
the vicinity of all high-power
motors, transformers, high-tension
cables, etc.

kind of
shielding.
When watching
television,
keep a dis-
tance
of
approximately 3-4
metres;
young subjects should avoid excessive
video game playing

front

computer

should avoid using electric blankets.
Nevertheless, electro-magnetic "con-
tamination" must
be
viewed
in
its
proper
perspective
-
magnelic fields would di-
minish markedly with distance,
unlike
air
/
water
pollution which can
aflect
large areas or
distant
regions.
