OF CHEN
HUI
LINTREATING
UTERINE
FIBROIDS
Chen
Hui Lin had
an
experience
of over 50 years on traditional Chinese
medicine, especially
gynaecology. An
objective comparison
between Chen's
treatment on
154 uterine
fibroid patients
and another 85 patients
being
treated
by
Cinnamon
Twig
&
Poria
Powder.
Before treatment,
a
joint consultation
with Western gynaecology was always
done
and
cancers,
pelvic inlection
are
all
excluded. Four
types of
uterine
fibroid were identified: "qi stagnation
and blood stasis", "heat blood
stasis",
"cold blood stasis" and "body deficiency
blood stasis"; these
types
and
the
variation in symptoms required minor
adjustments of Chen's prescription. On
the other hand, those
on
the Cinnamon
Twig
&
Poria Powder were treated
without
modification. After
treating
a
minimum
of 3
months,
the
main
end-point was the change
in
size
of
the
uterus, as determined by ultra-sound
fioint consultation).
lt
is interesting to
note the
overall effective
rate for
Chen's
group was 88.96%; for
the
Powder
gtoup,74.12Vo but all anti-blood stasis
herbs should be
used
with great care
and excessive bleeding
from the
vagina
can
be
fatal il not managed promptly
in
hospitals.
