lnorganic salts are essential for
physical activities. Calcium and
phos-
phorus are vital
for
bones, teeth
and
nerves;

daily; inadequacy causes caries, brittle
bones
and
muscle cramps. Take more
milk, soya bean or their products.
Ex-
cessive diarrhoea or urine output de-
pletes potassium;
in
really
extreme
cases, the heart
may
stop beating.
Fruit
juices can provide potassium;too much
potassium occurs
in kidney failure: fa-
tal
heart beat
irregularities
results. So-
dium maintains osmotic pressure;
ex-
cess
results in high blood pressure

salt
and soy source intake.
lron deficiency results
in
anaemia. Daily
requirement is higher in menstruating
women,
pregnancy

cer prevention properties. Some soils
lack these trace
elements
but in cities,
food
delivered
from various
sources
would balance such deficiencies.
