With her non-ceasing persever-
ance, Professor Cheng Shu, the Direc-
tor of the Tumour Research lnstitute at
Zhe-jiang Medical
University,
finally
discovered
2
new genes that suppress
the
occurrence of tumour.
The expression ol these
2
genes
in
the
tumour
of
colon cancer
is
obviously lower than
that
in
the normal
mucus membranes
of
the
colon.
After
analysing the
study
results
of
mixed
neon lights examination on the original
alignment
position,
these 2
genes are
separately positioned
in
the
1,
3
section
ol
no.
22 long-arm
human
chromosome and
in
the
24-25 section
of no.'l
1
long-arm chromosome.These
2 genes
mixed
missing
in
the
above
2
sections not only happens in
colon
cancer, but
also
in breast and ovary
cancers as found out by international
oncologists in
their
research.
For
this, at the end of
April,
1997, the
lnternational Genes Naming Commit-
tee
separately
named
the
tumour
suppressing genes as
no. 13
and
no.
14(Simplified
as
ST13
and
ST14
Genes). According
to
the
introduction
by
oncologists,
up
till
the
present,
internationally
researchers
have
discovered
that over
100
genes
are
related to cancers and only about
10
or
a
little
more genes are
tumour
suppressing.
Therefore,
this
research finding
bears
great
significance and contributes
values
of
practical
application
in the
prevention
&
treatment of colon
cancer
& other malignant tumours.
