around 40
weeks.

That the foetus
would
grow stronger
and
healthier
with
the
prolonged pregancy
is
false
consolation.
ln
fact, the weight
of
the
foetus would start
to
decrease
with
prolonged pregnancy - due
to
infarct,
librosis and calcification
of
the placenta,
thus lowering
its
function.
Moreover, a
prolonged pregnancy would lead
to
hardening of the skull ol the loetus and
would decrease the adaptation
of
the
foetal
head to
the moulding efiect
of
the
vagina.
Hormonal imbalance during
pregnancy
is a
common cause
for
prolonged
pregnancy,
followed
by
genetic factors and abnormal foetus,
eg, without
the
brain and the
skull,
making
the smoolh
passage most
unlikely.
Whenever pregnancy
is
prolonged, the mother should go to the
relevant hospital
for an
obstetrical
examination.
Mild
exercises, especially
when
near
term, would
improve the
circulation
of
the
placenta
and
likely
result in
a
normal
term
delivery.
