lnfertility may
be
defined as
the
inability to
conceive
during
the
course
of
normal
sexual
activity.
lt
is general
held
that
a
marriage should
not be
con-
sidered infertile
until
two years of
un-
protected coitus has been allowed to
pass.
Each couple's problems should
be
judged
individually.
However,
the
present paper will focus
in
the
female
specific
attention.
Based on traditional
Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, func-
tional defects in the female
are
related
to
the
"pulse"
problem
(dysmenorrhea
or amenorrhea)
in
addition to anatomic
defects
in
the
femal
urogenital organs.
Etlorts should
first
be made to exclude
infertility due
to
organic defects,
and
then
an
TCM diagnosis established and
herbs
with therapeutic actions to
nor-
malize
the
"pulse" be prescribed.
